Dear Sarah & Ben
I just wanted you to know that as soon as payday
comes I will be sponsoring Sarah in the London Marathon!
Last August I had my left kidney removed and very
much feel for you, as parents, and your daughter.
It is thought the kidney was not functioning correctly
from birth, although I was blissfully unaware until
about four years ago! I haven’t had chance to read
about your daughter’s condition but hope she is enjoying
her childhood without too many interruptions. It turns
out because I had my condition since birth, the other
kidney grew extra big to compensate! Hope Katie’s
other kidney will serve her well too!
I didn’t know there was a National Kidney
Research Fund and think it a very worthy
cause. I had an excellent surgeon (even on the NHS!)
who spent 6 hours ensuring I had minimal scarring
as he removed my kidney via keyhole surgery. More
research into this field of medicine will only ensure
everyone has the level of care and success I have.
I am fighting fit now but there was a time when I
didn’t think I would be. It was a stressful time for
my Mum and Dad, and only now do I realise how much
they were there for me. Katie is a very lucky little
girl having parents so proactive in their care for
her.
Wishing Katie, and you, all the luck in the world,
Helen Dibble - Harefield, Middlesex.
