A MUM from Kingsley is set to run the marathon to raise cash for research into her daughter's condition.
Katie German was born last April with multicystic dysplastic kidney which means she has one healthy kidney and a mass of cysts where the other should be.
As a result she has to have daily medication and a is set for some tests at Northampton General and a specialist unit in Leicester this year.
So mum Sarah has decided to run the Flora London Marathon to raise cash for Kidney Research UK.
She said: "Knowing that I am running to raise money for a charity that could benefit Katie is a brilliant incentive to keep going even when it gets tough.
"People like Katie who are born with kidney problems and those who develop them later in life deserve better treatment and care than is available now.
"I want to raise as much money as possible through sponsorship, donations, fundraising events and hard work for Kidney Research UK."
To prepare for the 26 mile slog, Sarah is running regularly around Abington Park. She added: "As well as training I am still working hard to fundraise for the charity so am trying to organise another raffle and arrange a charity football tournament with my brother's help in my home city of Edinburgh. "Knowing I am funding research to save lives will get me passed the finishing line on the day." Sarah has set up the website www.run4katie.org to gather support. Anyone else with a place in the marathon who would like to raise cash for the charity can email events@kldneyresearchuk.org or call (08456) 121226.
