Letter from Consultant Paediatrician (Dr Shahid Ali) - More Tests Needed Date Posted: 11/07/2005

Problem: Dysplastic muiticystic left kidney Current treatment: Trimethoprim 10 mg once a day Katie was seen in clinic on 4 July accompanied by her mother. She was well with no reported problems. Katie was noted to have multicystic left kidney on antenatal scan. This was confirmed on a postnatal scan done on 1 June 2005 Her right kidney is normal. She has not had any intercurrent urine infections and stays on Trimethoprim prophylaxis. She has also received one course of primary immunisations. From the growth point of view, she seems to be thriving with her weight and head circumference above the 75th centile. Katie lives with her parents and a 23 month old brother who are all well. Her mother had a history of PDA repair in early childhood. There are no ongoing issues and there is no family history of kidney problems. On physical examination Katie was normal and no abnormalities were detected. She should continue taking Trimethoprim regularly until further investigations are done. I have discussed her condition with Mr Rajinwale, paediatric urologist at Leicester Royal Infirmary. He will send a follow up appointment for Katie to be seen at Leicester in due course. However, before she goes there she needs to have the following two scans done, for which her parents will be sent appointments from Northampton General Hospital: 1. MAG 3 renogram 2. Micturating cystourethrogram I will also request my secretary to book an appointment for my clinic in a couple of months' time. Yours sincerely Dr Shahid Ali cc. Mr and Mrs German
