Date Posted: 26/11/2004 |
12.30pm - Go to hospital for 20 week ultrasound scan to check baby’s development. Expect to go back to work afterwards. Radiographer is very quiet whilst doing ultrasound and then says she needs to get someone else in to look at it. Not able to see baby’s kidney, stomach, bladder or urinary tract.
12.40pm - Second radiographer comes in to look at scan for second opinion. Says she can see stomach but not bladder and kidneys look abnormal. Advised to wait as is possible baby has just emptied bladder and that is why unable to view at present time. Told to wait in waiting room for hour then be rescanned.
2.15pm – Go back in for another ultrasound. Radiographer can now see bladder. Says urinary tract looks a bit enlarged but not too concerned about that. Right kidney looks enlarged and left kidney is very small and is surrounded by about 4 or 5 cysts. Advised to go to antenatal clinic to speak to someone there who will arrange for my to see consultant and have more scans to check baby’s growth and condition of kidneys.
3.30pm – Speak to a midwife at antenatal clinic who arranges appointments with consultant and further ultrasound scans. Explains what having only one healthy kidney means and what may lie ahead for my unborn baby.
4.30pm – Leave hospital and go to pick up 15 month old son Zackery from nursery
