The
reason for run4katie is very simple.
I am running in the Flora London Marathon
in April 2006 for Kidney Research UK (formally the National Kidney Research Fund)
because my baby daughter Katie Grace, who was born
in April 2005, has a condition called Multicystic
Dysplastic Kidney. In plain English she was
born with one healthy kidney on her right side and
on her left side where the other kidney should be
is a mass of cysts and minimal kidney tissue.
What better way to raise awareness of kidney problems
and raise funds for research and treatments for people
with kidney problems than do the Flora London Marathon?
So run4katie.org was born. We are thinking big. We
want to raise lots of money so people like Katie have
a better life with better treatment and care.
Kidney diseases and kidney problems do not get a
lot of media attention or press coverage so fund raising
is not as widespread as for other charities and good
causes, but run4katie.org wants to change that. People
like Katie who are born with kidney problems and those
who develop problems later in life as a result of
things like diabetes, deserve better treatment and
care than is available now. The people at National
Kidney Research Fund do a great job at the
moment but they need help to do better. That is where
we come in. We want to raise as much money as possible
through sponsorship, donations, fund raising events
and hard work for the National Kidney Research
Fund.
